A piece of nature-inspired jewellery.

During a recent walk through Crawfordsburn Country Park, I found inspiration in one of nature’s most enchanting trees — the aspen (Populus tremula), also known as the trembling or quaking aspen. Its leaves ripple and flutter in the slightest breeze, catching the light and shimmering as if the whole tree is alive with movement.
That moment sparked the design for my latest piece: a handmade copper necklace in the shape of an aspen leaf. The wavy copper outline follows the natural ripples of the leaf’s edge, while twisted wire veins capture its delicate structure. Just like the tree itself, the design carries a sense of lightness and motion.
Working with copper adds warmth and a natural glow, making the pendant feel as alive as the leaf that inspired it. It’s a reminder of how the smallest details in nature — even a single leaf — can hold beauty worth carrying with us.
This aspen leaf necklace is more than jewellery; it’s a story of connection to place, inspired by the forest paths of Crawfordsburn and the movement of the trembling aspen.
